about

Written 4/88, with that recording recreated and improved 11/93.

This was the first song I ever wrote for a girl, as a 17 year-old, so we've got some prime teen angst here. It was for a "just friends" unrequited love, much like the one that takes up the whole second half of this album. While that original version was very plaintive and pathetic, this one adds more groove in the rhythm part and some croon in the vocal delivery. But the bass line is reproduced note-for-note from my crummy 1988 recording.

lyrics

Through the night
I lie awake
Staring into darkness
Eternal gloom

Don't know much at all
At least I can call

I can call on you
Lay it all on you
I wish that I could leave you
But that will never be true
I will always call on you

I will call on you
Lay it all on you
Please just come and sit with me
That's all that I can ask
If you won't let me touch you
In your presence I will bask
