about

Compiled in Sept. 2022 from many tapes from 1991-1995 in Ann Arbor, some of which were remastered for the occasion, nearly all of which have received some sonic attention since 2010.

The main course here consists of four tunes recorded in 1995, a year after the band broke up. Two of these were designated the "Post-Mortem EP," while two other were part of a batch recorded by Fingers, the band that remained after Mark left. That album was never finished, and these two tracks were finished by Mark's effort.

The other entree is our original 1991 demo, digitally remixed from the source 4-track cassette tapes in January 2010.

There are also 5 cover tunes also recorded in that "studio" manner as demo material, a couple of tracks recorded by Mark and Matt Diaz in the summer of 1991 in a hot, gross attic, and the remaining tracks come from poring over live recordings, including a couple used for our live demo at the time and a few performances that differ significantly enough from their album versions that it seemed worth sharing them with you.

For dessert, you get a lengthy improvised comic piece that three of us recorded one evening under the name Pakistan, plus a rare co-write by Steve and Mark that dropped out of our set before we started recording in earnest.

The MayTricks are long dead, but our three lengthy albums and this collection may still provide you with some nutrition if you can overlook a few maggots and worms and things. So chewy!
